Educational series - awareness work in pop culture

In May 2024, we, the PopBoard NRW and musicNRWwomen* are jointly launching an educational series on the topic of awareness work in pop culture. The educational series is aimed at organizers and actors who want to develop their own awareness processes and implement them in their work. Under the direction of Johanna Bauhus (awareness, diversity and inclusion agency Safe the Dance, music label Ladies&Ladys), we would like to impart extensive theoretical principles and combine these with a practical application.

“Where are you really from?” and “You as a person of color: What do you think about that?”. These sentences seem harmless, but can cause stress, anger and other negative feelings in the other person. This is because these are so-called micro-aggressions. Subtle gestures and behaviors that convey discriminatory messages. The sender is usually unaware of this. And yet the impact can be devastating. How can we recognize micro-aggression and reduce it in our awareness work so that we can create safer spaces? The lecture explores this question.
